Thank you, Adrienne Rich, for inspiring this healing series based on your poem, "Diving into the Wreck." I have been floating on a boat for the last decade, through stormy and still waters, imagining that I was the captain working tirelessly to guide the ship. I jumped in for a swim from time to time, seeing glimpses of the truth, but never fully diving into the darkness beneath. It's mostly comfortable and convenient on the surface. And then, the opportunity for a deep-sea dive approached, and I jumped in, only to discover that the truth was waiting on the ocean floor. The wreck. The thing itself and not the myth. I explored the wreck and resurfaced with new breath, returned to land, and went home.
This series represents an exploration of the truth of gender dichotomies and how women navigate that truth in our professional lives. Look the truth dead in his eyes, resurface, and replant your feet on solid ground.
